THE GALLO FAMILY
A story of time, sea, and love passed down from generation to generation.
The Gallo family
We are a family of fishermen for four generations, tied to the sea by a relationship based on respect and profound knowledge. We own the largest Italian tuna fleet in the Mediterranean, a legacy built over time that today allows us to hold the highest legally established bluefin tuna fishing quota. Salerno boasts a maritime tradition particularly renowned for its tuna fishing, a context in which our family grew and established itself over time.
Our in-depth knowledge of tuna begins at sea and continues on land, where we oversee every stage of the supply chain: from selecting the finest cuts to artisanal processing, which takes place in our Salerno facility. We process each product by hand, following timescales and methods that respect the raw material and preserve its quality, consistency, and flavor.
Ours is a family-run supply chain, from fishing to processing, built on experience and a commitment to the sea. This is how we guarantee excellent tuna, the fruit of a true story passed down from generation to generation.
Antonio Gallo, the founder.
Our family story begins with Antonio Gallo, the founder who shaped everything. Antonio was fifteen when he chose a life at sea: he joined fishing boats and dreamed of becoming a captain.
During the long months of sailing, he realized that bluefin tuna fishing in the Mediterranean could become something bigger. A boat wasn't enough for him. He wanted to build a fleet. With determination, he built the Santa Rita, Italy's first all-iron tuna vessel. It wasn't just a vessel: it was a sign of vision, of solidity, of a future. It was the beginning of a journey that transformed his work as a fisherman into a business idea. Like his father before him, Antonio passed on this passion for life on board and for the sea to his family.
Luigi, Giuseppe, and Ferdinando, his three sons, the third generation of fishermen, soon took up that legacy and developed it to build the most important Italian tuna fleet in the Mediterranean, now a key player in the port of Salerno. Antonio Gallo's story is not just a personal one; it is the origin of a family tradition, one that still today unites tuna fishing, selection, and processing, in keeping with the family tradition.
